Final Report - TB-VIR (Mycobacterium tuberculosis W-Beijing genetic diversity and differential virulence and host immune responses)

Project ID: 200973
Funded under: FP7-HEALTH

This is the final report of TB-VIR, which aimed to unravel the links between differential host responses to M. tuberculosis infection and mycobacterial genetic diversity and virulence at the global genomic and post-genomic levels within the W-Beijing family.

The report starts off with exploration of the topic and its context. Next, the five goals of the project are described in detail. The project results are first summarized and then described in more detail, according to the several work packages. Next the potential impact on novel TB control strategies and on pathogen research through innovation, training and networking is described.

The TB-VIR project has been successful to provide new knowledge on M. tuberculosis and to generate new possible intervention tools and to promote Euro-Asian collaborations between laboratories in France, Germany and Spain, and laboratories in China and Korea.
