Our senses allow us to collect external signals from the environment and convert them into coherent internal representations, which elicit responses that form the basis of adaptive behaviours.

In this context the MNEMOSMELL project, which was funded by the European Commission (EC), aimed to clarify the neural processes directing sensory perception and orientation behaviours using a simple behavioural paradigm, i.e. chemotaxis in the drosophila melanogaster larva.

This figure is an attachment to the project's final report and illustrates the trajectory of a larva evolving in the vicinity of an odour source, as well as the time course of the olfactory stimulus experienced by the larva. It also represents the model of the sensorimotor integration controlling the chemotaxis.
