Final Report - WIOD (World Input-Output Database: construction and applications)

Project ID: 225281
Funded under: FP7-SSH

This is the final report of the WIOD project which received funding under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) which aimed to provide support in generating an in-depth, shared understanding of complex and interrelated socio-economic challenges Europe is confronted with, such as growth, employment and competitiveness, social cohesion, intercultural understanding, social, cultural and educational challenges in an enlarged EU, and sustainability, demographic change, migration and integration, quality of life and global interdependence.

The report begins by covering the background of project. It notes that it allows for addressing issues related to fragmentation and socio-economic aspects (such as jobs, the creation of value added, or capital compensation) as well as environmental aspects (such as energy use, various emissions to air, and the use of water).

The first part of the report covers the initial stages of the project (months 1 - 18) which was mainly devoted to the construction of the preliminary version of (a large part of) the database. This preliminary version was made available only to consortium members and served two purposes. It was the basis for the applications which were at the heart of the second part of the project (months 19-36) which are covered in the last section in the project. The report concludes with the potential impact of the project. It is expected that this project will generate substantial impacts for three different user groups: academic researchers, statistical agencies, and policy analysts and makers at both the national and international level.
