Final Report - DGMD (Does Globalization Make a Difference?)

Project ID: 204997
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the final report of the DGMD project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project investigates the effects of globalisation on mass politics; investigating how 'globalised' economies and politics affect public attitude and political behaviour. The data for the project was sourced from Comparative Study of Electoral Systems (CSES) and was collected in the immediate aftermath of the global financial crisis; it was used to analyse consequences for party politics.

The DGMD project gives rise to several analyses, exploring several case studies across Europe of the effects of the global financial crisis. Research found that voters can assign government responsibility. This calls into question, or at least more clearly defines claims that globalisation necessarily limits the ability of voters to hold governments to account.
