Final Report - METOXAD (Solvation effects on photo-induced Metal-Activated Oxidative-Addition Reactions of Hydrocarbons and Halocarbons)

This is the final report of the METOXAD project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project aimed to produce and characterise rare gas (RG) solids doped with 'isolated' calcium atoms. The project used a Knudsen-cell, high-temperature oven to record calcium deposits at 10.5 K. This lower temperature allowed easier identification of calcium absorption bands, the luminescence spectroscopy recorded allowed the effect of inert RG solvation on the metal atom to be determined, and RG matrices containing calcium and the molecule of interest were produced for investigation using infrared spectroscopy.

The projected ablation source could have allowed direct injection of the pre-formed gas-phase cluster into the rare-gas solvent, however financial constraints did not allow for its design and construction.
