Final Report - ETSIGDEV (Role of EIN3 and ethylene signaling in Arabidopsis development)

This is the final report of the ETSIGDEV project, which is funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This project investigated the intricacies of the specific roles that the gas hormone ethylene, in conjunction with auxin, plays in a plant's life cycle. Identification of the roles of ethylene proteins was achieved using bioinformatics.

The research proved that the stabilisation of ethylene protein EIN3 in ebf1 ebf2 knockout lines causes root meristem shrinkage, leading to root meristem collapse. This process is a direct consequence of EIN3 accumulation in the meristem. Studies also confirmed that auxin does not appear to play a major role in meristematic cell growth.
