Final Report - ARBRES (Active Rejection of Background in Rare Event Searches)

Project ID: 236122
Funded under: FP7-PEOPLE

This is the final report of the ARBRES project, funded by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project covered a key topic in astroparticle physics: the tagging, control and rejection of the radioactive background of surface origin in rare-event searches. The project set out to significantly extend the discovery potential of searches for Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and for WIMPs - hypothetical particles composing Dark Matter. The project focused on control of the radioactive background and the detection technique required.

The research has identified surface events by pulse shape analysis, proving a good separation between bulk and surface events. The project's results will help to identify surface background in bolometric searches; however, future tests should optimise rejection capability.
