Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

COST 74 is a European collaborative project investigating the use of a new instrument called a windprofiler. This instrument, as well as leading to improvements in weather forecasting, provides valuable information for research into atmospheric processes, such as transport of pollutants, and for operational activities, such as aircraft safety and flight planning. The aim of COST 74 is to establish a network of windprofilers. Measurements of the wind at a number of heights in the atmosphere are referred to as a wind profile. Various uses of wind profiles are discussed. Windprofilers are described and their operational details are presented.
