Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

On the basis of an initiative by Swiss investigators, a COST Concerted Action in the field of air pollution epidemiology was started in 1990. Within this framework two working groups were formed, one covering exposure assessment methodology for studies in air pollution epidemiology, and the other covering health effect assessment methodology. This report discusses methods for assessment of health effects of air pollution in epidemiological studies, against the background of recent developments in exposure to ambient air pollution in Europe. The report summarises work done and provides key references for further study. Designed to help investigators in the field to decide on research topics and methodology, it is also meant to provide funding agencies with a general framework for judging the priority and quality of research proposals in the field of air pollution epidemiology.
