Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The aim of this project is to automate the manual gunning of tundishes by the mean of a computer controlled robot in order to ensure a constant and optimized lining. An off-line programming system on a graphic display terminal will allow easy modifications of the geometric tundish configuration and of the lining strategy. The size and shape of the tundishes can be varied. Different types of spraying patterns will be programmed in and stored so that it can, for example, by thicker at the slag line or at the impact area. The operator is able to make a direct selection of the desired program on the control panel. Due to this labour-saving technique, human effort may be concentrated on monitoring and other important duties.
