  • Development of an accelerated laboratory test method for atmospheric corrosion of (painted) precoated steel products: First phase-literature study


Based on a literature survey conducted with the help of two computerized databases, this report has drawn on the state of the art regarding the atmospheric corrosion of pre-coated steel products. Although a large amount of relevant data were recorded, it appears that no accelerated test procedure has so far been able to reproduce the results obtained under natural environmental conditions with sufficient accuracy and an acceptable reproducibility. This situation results primarily from the lack of data on the role played by different corrosion factors, the lack of appraisal criteria and the lack of information concerning the corrosion mechanism. Recommendations to design suitable accelerated test procedures have been proposed so as to achieve reliable procedures applicable to precoated steel products for use in the building sector.
