Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This book contains the results of a research project carried out with concerted action funding in which the European Commission pays the cost of coordination for the collaboration of all the participating teams in the research project. In this book, the use of medicine in homes, outside the clinic, and purchased from a pharmacy is examined. This was definitely a different type of research project than had been carried out in most European drug utilization studies. The use of qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as the development of anthropological perspective in analysing and interpreting the information were required. The success of this research project is gauged by the dissemination of its results as well as by the achievement of one of the main goals of the European Commission: to remove the scientific borders and to create 'laboratories without walls' through the collaboration of a group of scientists from several European countries.
