In order to study, from a thermomechanic view, the behaviour of the field near an exothermic radioactive waste stockpile in a salt formation an in situ experiment was carried out in the Amélie salt mine. This experimentation had the objective of studying the advantages and inconveniences of an empty area or refilled with crushed salt around the containers. These two configurations were studied in relation to a reference case which has theoretical immediate contract between the well shafts and the containers.
This thermomechanical experimental phase was preceeded by a phase of experience with the mass at ambient temperature. In this way, the temperature fields and the displacement of the mass was auscutated over a five year period, from the emptying of the CPPS gallery to the period of thermomechanic experience.
The petrophysical, thermic and mechanic characteristics were studied starting from laboratory assays on cores removed from the CPPS site. .
