These Proceedings are a record of the COST-78 International Workshop on the Improvement of Nowcasting Techniques, held in Bologna, Italy, 25-28 March 1996. The Workshop was a gathering of some 70 scientists from 14 European countries, with the common purpose of working together to make progress on some of the most important and difficult forecasting problems, in order to provide users with better nowcasts of high impact weather events. The Workshop concentrated on three themes identified from the Phase 1 survey: strong convection; fog and low cloud; fronts and rapid cyclogenesis.
