Gas generation may occur in a deep underground repository of radioactive waste. This gas may be released through the engineered barrier and flow through the geological barrier. The Evegas benchmark project aims at the verification and the validation of numerical software for modelling two phase flow phenomena (water/gas) in low permeability porous media.

The project is organized in three phases:

- Phase 1: Analysis of the codes and treatment of a simple problem with analytical solution;
- Phase 2: Calculation of a few problems based on laboratory experiments;
- Phase 3: Modelling of a repository scenario.

Final reports on phase 1 and phase 2 have been published under EUR 16639 EN and EUR 17556 EN respectively.

In this report the phase 3 test case is described, which is dedicated to the simulation of gas migration through a geological formation hosting a typical radioactive waste repository. Pressure and saturation evolutions have been analysed through particular points and up to 5 000 years. There is some evidence to point out the relative weakness of Tough and Porflow algorithm for achieving the problem solution. Genesys and Eclipse gave, in different manners, satisfactory results. results.
