A code for simulating the dynamic behaviour of a hot strip tandem finishing rolling mill has been developed. The code simulates the rolling parameters variations and the dynamic behaviour of plant components, during both the steady state and the transient rolling phases:

- Mechanical components (stands, stansmission, loopers);
- Electric motors;
Regulation and control systems;
- Constitutive equation of material yield strength..

The coupled mathematical modelling of the hot plastic deformation material behaviour and of the dynamic behaviour of plant components allows evaluation of both the dynamic responce of plant components, in presence of disturbances, and the final strip properties like variations of thickness and temperature along the strip length at the exit of the last stand of the mill.

The comparison between measured and calculated values of rolling parameters, concerning the mill dynamic behaviour, has shown good agreement. reement.
