  • Evaluation of toughness requirements for tension loaded cracked components with fracture mechanics methods using FE analyses to determine the local loading situation


The aim of the research project was the systematic analysis of wide plates with regard to the local loading situation and the evaluation of fracture mechanics toughness requirements. For that purpose 3-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element (FE) calculations have been performed under the application of very fine and detailed models. The influence of component width, thickness and crack length ratio has been investigated as well as the effect of flaw type. Toughness requirements have been evaluated for different geometries and grades of steel.
