The main aim of this project was to widen the knowledge of the lubrication and infiltration mechanisms of the mould fluxes during the continuous casting of billets. Simulation on a laboratory scale of the formation and growth of the reaction injection moulding (RIM) was performed through a simulator where liquid steel was substituted by mercury and the lubricating flux by a set of different liquids. Mechanisms for surface longitudinal marks and for surface entrapments formation have been studied.
