The European Concerted Action COST 503 Powder Metallurgy - Powder based materials was officially approved in 1983 with the following main objectives:

- The organization of European research and development activities in the field of advanced powder metallurgy;
- To initiate collaboration between industry and research institutions;
- The coordination of research activities in the field of powder metallurgy.

The Management Committee of the Action decided to prepare a summary and a critical evaluation of the research activities of COST 503, to be published in five volumes. Volume II provides a summary informing expert readers about the results of the investigations with a critical assessment of the achievements. ents.
