The present research work deals with the study of the rolling parameters during cold rolling and their impact on strip cleanliness in terms of oil and iron pollution. A personal computer based acquisition system for rolling variables was developed and put in operation in a 4-stand tandem cold mill. Various industrial experiments were conducted in order to study the effect of the critical rolling parameters (rolling speed; rolling force; rolling oil concentration; detergent concentration; reduction in the last stand) on the strip surface pollution. Additionally, the impact from the incoming oil pollution to the mill (from the pickling line) was investigated. After having completed these studies and having received the apparatus for the measurement of oil and iron pollution, a new series of industrial experiments started for the calibration of the instrument.
