  • Study of the causes of clogging in controlled tapping systems of tundishes and ladles, especially from a current technical point of view and under consideration of the pressure conditions


The clogging in controlled tapping systems (slide gate or stopper control) in continuous casting can considerably hinder or even interrupt the casting process. An exhaustive analysis of known results made within the scope of this research work has shown that clogging in controlled tapping systems is mainly due to the deposition of nonmetallic inclusions suspended in the melt. The infiltration of ambient air and the ensuing formation of alumina is another main cause of spout clogging. The flow and pressure conditions in controlled tapping systems are of a decisive importance in this respect.
