Two prototypes of resonant fatigue machines with a maximum moment of 2000 Nmm and 15 Nm have been built and tested for the determination of alternating and pulsating torsional fatigue strength of cold-drawn spring steel wire of diameters 1.6 mm to 4.0 mm. Special clamps have been developed to pass the torsional moment into the wire specimens in a soft way. The ends of the wire specimens have been bended with an experimentally optimized radius. The torsional fatigue strength and the rotating bending fatigue strength for the variants untreated and tempered were determined and compared for patented unalloyed cold-drawn spring steel wire. The values were compared with the results of the helical spring tests.
