  • Mathematical model of the phase transformation of deformed austenite created in order to foresee the microstructure of low C steels after thermo-mechanical treatment


The goal of this research was to create and verify a mathematical model based on physics, which should be able to foresee the phase transformation of steel austenite after thermo-mechanical treatment. Two categories of steels were considered: C-Mn steels and micro-alloyed steels. The model is based on the laws of phase transformation by nucleation and growth in the solid state. The models calculate the kinetics of polygonal ferrite formation, Widmanstatten ferrite formation and bainite. Furthermore, it calculates the concentration of austenite in C during the phase transformation gamma - alpha, so that it is possible to foresee the formation of high C pearlite and martensite at the end of the process of transformation.
