The influence of phosphorus on stainless steels was investigated on the austenitic steel 1.4301/304 and the ferritic steel 1.4016/430 in order to conclude which contents should generally be avoided and which may be tolerable for certain applications. Four melts each with phosphorus ranging between 0.01 % and 0.1 % were produced and rolled to hot and cold strip.
