As a result of this research, a Navier-Stokes equation-based numeric model has been implemented, perfected and utilised to describe steel solidification through strip-casting on the special twin-roll strip caster mould.

In the first place, the model was validated on the grounds of experimental data. It was subsequently examined by sensitivity tests to the process parameters. Afterwards, the longitudinal crack formation mechanism was analysed by evaluating the temperature trend in the vicinity of the rolls, so that it could be possible to formulate hypotheses about this phenomenon, as well as to work out why excessive waviness at the meniscus occurred. In this regard, a parameter (index of waviness) was defined with respect to the dynamics of upwards fluid speed, in order to evaluate the phenomenon quantitatively.
