This present investigation has further examined the influence of attachment thickness on welded joints using a higher strength structural steel, RQT 501. Base plate thicknesses of 25, 50 and 100 mm were employed with attachments ranging from 10 to 100 mm. Fatigue tests were mainly carried out in bending on as-welded joints, together with a restricted number in the stress relieved condition. A small number of tests were also performed in axial tension.
