  • COST 817: Aims and Progress: Airborne pathogens on cereals: Population studies of airborne pathogens on cereals as a means of improving strategies for disease control

COST Action 817 aims at improving integrated strategies for use of host resistance genes and fungicides to control the spread of airborne pathogens throughout Europe and thus support European agriculture in its attempt to produce healthy and high quality cereal crops using low inputs in an environmentally safe way. Emphasis is put on the following major cereal pathogens of wheat and barley in Europe; powdery mildews, rusts and septoria tritici blotch. The work has been carried out within six Working Groups (WGs):

- Surveys on virulence and aggressiveness;
- Variety and species mixtures to control airborne diseases of cereals;
- Cereal rust and mildew genome database;
- Host resistance genes especially for partial resistance;
- Epidemiological parameters;
- Fungicide sensitivity.

This publication presents the scientific and technical results achieved. chieved.
