Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This volume contains the proceedings of the second Ljubljana round table on the use of geographic information systems in the study of ancient landscapes, held in Ljubljana in 1998. While the title, which is the original title of the round table, reflects the critical stance of Working Group 2 (methodology and informatics) as to its achievements, contributions by members of the network witness the important progress in both quality and scope of GIS-supported research within COST Action G2. Clearly, today, no archaeological landscape research can manage without this tool, even if only for mapping, overlaying and comparing different spatial data layers. The challenge, however, remains to appropriately adapt the tool, to rethink the frameworks within which we operate and to theoretically underpin our research.
