Development of a prototype system for the non-destructive, magneto-inductive determination of directional mechanical/technological properties in light-gauge sheets
Project ID:
7210-GB/125
Funded under: ECSC-STEEL C
Abstract
Final report on Contract No 7210-GB/125, 126, 1 October 1996 to 30 June 2000.
In order to comply with the increasing demands regarding product quality and to reduce the expenditure required by the destructive testing of light-gauge sheets in tensile tests, the project aimed to develop a non-destructive test procedure to quickly and extremely accurately determine the directional mechanical/technological properties of fine-gauge sheets.
In the first stage of the project the method of measurement was developed for use in the test laboratory, calibrated in relation to various qualities of light-gauge sheets, working in parallel to tensile testing. After proven stationary use, the measuring system was developed and adapted in the second stage to the dynamic constraints and tough operating conditions of continuous operation in a conveyor system. A relevant prototype system with non-contact measured value detection was created, integrated at a suitable point in a conveyor system and run in and optimised in conjunction with a manufacturing plant.
