Final report on Contract No 7210-PR/059, 1 July 1997 to 31 December 2000.

This report summarises the outcome of the project, design tools and new applications of cold formed steel in building. The overall objective of this project is to promote the use of cold formed steel members in general building applications. The principal outcomes are:
- The production of commercial software capable of determining section properties and designing members in accordance with ENV1993-1-3.
- The production of guidance to help manufacturers develop design tables in accordance with the Eurocode.
- The development of design rules for predicting the stiffness of joist-board composite systems, and the validation of these rules with considerable test data.
- The identification of standard test arrangements and procedures for clinched connections, and extension of the current scope for bolted connections.
- The development of empirical design rules for cold formed members with web openings subject to local loading.
- The development of design guidance for arched sheeting applications, validated by both tests and finite element analyses.
- The development of design rules which allow for the semi-continuity of double span purlins with sleeves or slices over the internal support.
- The identification of tolerances that may be used with cold formed members and that are compatible with both manufacturing practice and the requirements of the design rules in the Eurocode.
