Off-Site Nuclear Emergency Management and Restoration of Contaminated Environments, SAMEN and MOSES thematic clusters, EUR 21927

Funded under: FP6-EURATOM

Within the European Commission's Euratom Fifth Framework Programme (FP5), a number of projects were clustered to provide a more effective response to the objectives of the research programme. Among the various objectives of these clusters it is worth to mention:
i) ensure the effective and timely exchange of data, information and results between the respective projects, thus avoiding duplication, maximising synergy and promoting coherence;
ii) provide a forum to review and monitor progress within each project and advise on the direction of research in subsequent periods; and
iii) maintain focus on broader objectives of the programme area to which the separate projects were subservient.
The SAMEN and MOSES clusters were selected by an independent panel of the European Commission and distinguished with the award of being one of the success stories of the Fifth Framework Programme due to the efforts towards the creation of a European research area, integrating all research and development activities for a better and robust approach to nuclear emergency response and site restoration.
The integration achieved through the SAMEN and MOSES clusters led to the creation of the Integrated Project EURANOS, which is currently in progress under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6).
