Characterization and modelling of the processing behaviour of liquid crystalline polymers

The consortium has developed experimental procedures and models to study the processing of liquid crystalline polymers (LCPs) and other polymers with complex flow induced structures. This includes experimental procedures to accurately characterize this class of materials. In addition rheo optical techniques have been developed that make it possible to study the structure development during flow in the same systems. Finally models have been developed to describe the flow behaviour of LCPs. A rheological model, which has been evaluated, is available that can be used in detailed simulations of processing flows, using computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacture (CAM).
