Software modules for simulation of damage and effects of damage on material properties

Micromechanical models to simulate the development of damage in ceramics have been developed in previous research (BRITE/EURAM project Modelcot BREU0535). The models can be extended to investigate particular microstructures present in both ceramic and composite materials. These models could be used in 2 main directions:
calculations of effective properties of composite materials as a function of damage;
prediction of the lifetime of components in conjunction with models for the testing or in service conditions.
