FATIGUE MECHANISMS AND FAILURE CRITERIA OF ROLLING LOBE AIR SPRINGS.

Exploitable results

New fatigue testers for rubber cord composites have been designed and built. Testing apparatus for multiaxial measurements on rubber materials has been constructed (based on transputer technology for control and data acquisition). Deformation tests on various cord rubber composites were carried out for comparison with finite element (FE) calculations. FE modules for the micromechanical treatment of cord and rubber materials were written and implemented into an in house FE code. In particular a new non-linear inelestic material law was developed for the description of carbon black filled rubber (full tensorial formulation, based on internal variables).
