Adhesive bonding technology for building construction

Major developments in adhesive bonding technology have led to wider acceptance and application of adhesives in many sectors of engineering.

A number of aspects related to some particular and novel applications of acrylic, epoxide, polyurethane and silicone adhesives and sealants have been covered. Surface treatments, test methods, durability evaluation, analytical modelling, generalized design approaches and process technology were among the topics addressed.
Adoption of common materials and cooperation in experimental and theoretical matters has enabled a large advance in understanding and technical appreciation.

Exploitation of the results achieved includes:
use of novel test methods;
use of structural composite action in steel assemblies;
adoption of bonded assembly details in semistructural aluminium assemblies;
input to regulations and standards.
