Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Biofactoría Naturae et Salus S.A. is a biotechnological agrifood Company created in 2011 which extracts healthy natural substances and natural additives from fungi and vegetables, in order to produce new and healthy high added value foodstuffs. The objective of our project, Naturhealth Food, consists on introducing onto the market a worldwide novelty: a new and natural biopreservative able to substitute the chemical preservatives in food (referred as E-numbers) in most foodstuffs with similar efficacy, with a competitive price and preserves the original organoleptic properties of the product. This biopreservative is extracted from a genetically selected edible fungus by Naturae®, known for its healthy properties. It has already been successfully manufactured in our biofactory and tried in numerous foodstuffs. This biopreservative doesn’t alter the organoleptical characteristics of the foodstuffs (colour, flavour and odour).

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

"""In this action we’ve deeply analysed the business opportunity for NATURHEALTH FOOD, particularly in the niche of organic food, and we have elaborated a comprehensive business plan regarding the current and foresighted features of the market and our capacities in NATURAE. The main conclusions of the action are:
• NATURHEALTH FOOD has been tested by an independent third party who has certified the superior conservation and organoleptic features of the product, encouraging the commercialisation.
• We have designed the required facilities for the industrialisation of NATURHEALTH FOOD. In this step we’ve concluded that we can develop cost efficient production.
• The analysis of the market has shown us that the market size and trends are big enough to absorb the foresighted production capacity at competitive prices being at the same time profitable regarding the foresighted production costs.
• In the economic study we’ve analysed the financial dimension of the business considering both the SMEI project and the foreseeable heritage of the company after the completion of the action. The profitability opportunity is large and clear but no risk exempt.
• Finally, the IPR and legal study has certified the originality of NATURHEALTH FOOD and complete Freedom to Operate. Furthermore, it has suggested the need for protection of both the raw fungi and preservative.
