Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

The aim is to develop a biometric product platform for access control for a universal unlimited scale.

Benefits for companies using biometrics for large scales of users:
• Protection against
o theft/industrial spying
o internal theft
o betrayal at time recording by stamp misuse
o costly replacements by stolen/lost access media
o attacks to receive passwords
o image damage by security breaches
• Increase of
o working safety by excluding unauthorized staff
o safety in emergency situations by area balancing
• Reduction of
o maintenance work by combination of different identification systems
o administrative work and reaction time by biometrical network solutions

Visions for biometric solutions:
• Universal building control systems
• Full integration in personal and building management systems
• Flexible, decentralised management of access rights
• Connecting company subsidiaries
• Full home automation via fingerprint

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

To define the product requirements and to assess the feasibility the workload is:
• Market research for quantification of product-related preferences of target segments (Conjoint Analysis)
• Derivation of markets shares on revealed preferences, derivation of price demand functions
• Estimation of economic potential
• Transforming customer preferences to product requriements (House of Quality Approach)
• Developing of marketing strategy and marketing mix program e.g. market entry strategies, sales and distribution channels, content of communication campaigns
• Business plan with forecast for first 5 years

Evaluated desired product properties:
• Interfaces with external/third-party systems e.g. time recording
• Universal combined versatility (door, printer, elevator, PC)
• Flexible, decentralized administration and permission assignment
• Network solutions for dynamically administration and access
• Ability for expansion (modular structure)
• Easy installation/maintenance by wireless connection or battery solution
• Miniaturization of components for easy physical integration
• Integration of additional media as RFID

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

Due to the new biometric algorithm the following challenges for large scale of users can be solved:
• Clearly and securely identification for thousands of users amoung each other
• Reliable identification of every employee without failure
• No false assignments for non-authorized users e.g. >500K comparisions
• Minimized calculation time
