Periodic Report Summary 2 - OPTOMOTORPATH (Optogenetic dissection of motor cortex dynamics and pathways)

The project addresses the question of how cortical areas involved in motor control manage to communicate simultaneously with different brain areas. Central questions are which kind of information is send to the different targets and how the information is channeled to these target. To this end, we employ a combination of local or pathway specific manipulations and neuronal measurements in awake behaving animals. For a identifying the ideal probes for our purposes, we systematically screened four different devices. The results have been published in Frontiers of Systems Neuroscience in 2017. Further, results in the project indicate that specific movement parameters are encoded specifically in subsections of prefrontal cortex. This work has been published in Current Biology in 2017. In addition our preliminary data indicate that the overlap between some of the projecting populations are highly overlapping.
