High performance computing and high performance networking in audio-visual content development

The D A VI D. project integrates high performance computing (HPC) and high performance networking (HPN) technologies into new tools and services, already available or currently being introduced on to the market. The introduction of HPCN in the European audio visual production industry in the form of HPN connections between facilities offers multiple benefits to companies fighting to stay competitive in a global market against competition from outside the European Union. D A VI D, conducted by a user driven consortium, demonstrates these benefits by establishing an integrated networked working environment between the participating users. Baseline projects, with direct relation to real-life commercial activities, allow all phases of content development and creation to be undertaken in the audio visual production field. This includes communications, conferencing and decision making. This integration results in significant savings in time and resources compared to traditional methods of communication and interaction, thus resulting in considerable competitive benefits.
