Intelligent decision support system

Based on a detailed user specifications analysis an intelligent decision support system (I-DSS) has been designed with the aim of providing effective decision support for daily operations. Impact analysis carried out offers general guidelines for the initial investment in such a system. The potential market is small and medium sized enterprises (SME) with complex decision-making processes that are based on the evaluation of a lot of quantitative parameters (eg exchange rates, stock availability, precise costing, production planning). Key technical achievements of the result are the integration of high performance computing and networking (HPCN) technology through clusters of workstations that are available even in small size SMEs and a methodological approach based on modular systems theory for the development of the business models. The major benefit through the use of the I-DSS system is an increase in profitability through the optimization of the most important financial decision-making processes. Impact analysis in the pilot user SME shows that at least a 5 % cut in expenses can be achieved (conservative scenario) and a range of 10-15 % is realistic. Important indirect benefits are also expected and mainly they come from the development of a 'clean' data warehouse that can provide very useful insights into the company operation even with the use of simple techniques such as visualization and simple statistics.
