Strengthening co-operation among leading utilities on development and integration of renewable energies

When seeking to integrate renewable energies more fully into the European energysupply system, significant value can be gained by the utilities concerned from thesharing of experiences, skills and know-how from across Europe. The EURE groupwas formed in 1990 to foster cross-national co-operation amongst Europeanelectricity utilities on the integration and implementation of renewable energytechnologies. The aim of this project, carried out by the EURE group members, wasto assist accelerated technological readiness and market penetration of RE throughfurther strengthening co-operation amongst utilities and research organizations inEurope. Particular attention was paid to wind power, solar power (PV) hydro-powerand biomass.Although much research into RE technologies involves the improvement anddemonstration of technologies, this project mainly deals with the next step in theprocess, namely looking at the critical issues in the implementation of RE at thelarger scale, e.g. the economics, distributed utility concept, technology transferand market conditions.
