Final Report Summary - MULTISCAFFOLD (A new strategy for the diversity-oriented synthesis of skeletally diverse alkaloid-like compounds for chemical genetic studies)

Executive summary:
The field of chemical genetics – in which small molecules are used as tools to investigate biological mechanisms – requires access to libraries of small molecules that span large tracts of biologically-relevant chemical space. This fellowship resulted in the development of synthetic approaches for preparing skeletally-diverse alkaloid-like small molecules. The fellow exploited the approaches in the synthesis of about 100 alkaloid-like compounds that were based on a wide range of distinct scaffolds. The library of compounds has been offered to a wide range of European cell biologists, funded through EU consortia, for screening in both cell- and protein-based assays.
