The State and market: relationships in transition

Exploitable results

The main aim of this research is to monitor the relationship between the State and the market in a few focused areas of the economy. The areas to be studied are: inflation (Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan); social protection in enterprises, a study of Ukraine to explore the evolution of compensation structures, i.e., the ratio between cash wages and social benefits and services, during the transition process; industrial restructuring and privatization (Russia and Ukraine); banking and capital markets (Russia and Ukraine); regional economic development (Russia and Ukraine). In each field the interaction between policy and the market sphere will be monitored with the aim of finding the stylized facts for the transition from a severely distorted system to a market economy. Research reports will be published first as working papers by the participating institutions in Vienna, Sienna and Saarbrucken. Submission for publication in academic journals and books will be prepared. Presentations at workshops and conferences are intended.
