Single cylinder engine for thermodynamic tests

The single cylinder research engine AVL 530 (2lit/cyl) was modified for the adaptation of the advanced common rail fuel injection system APCRS. Experimental studies were carried out which focused on the optimisation of engine combustion (minimisation of harmful exhaust gas emissions and optimisation of thermal efficiency). The engine development procedure was improved (combination of experimental work with computer simulations). Engine combustion was analysed in detail by optical measurements which improved the basic understanding of combustion phenomena.

The results were provided to partners and were analysed and discussed within the consortium. They contributed to the final development work, which was carried out on a multi cylinder engine (by partner IVECO MF). The hardware can be used by the Owner for further studies and research projects for additional know-how increase.
