Liquid crystal techniques and daylight systems - the Polymage result

Replacing artificial light by solar light allows energy savings and furthermore in winter the outdoor thermal transmittance can be reduced, whereas in summer, light and solar energy can be lowered and one can therefore minimize the energy required for cooling. Numerous works and studies have been made on glazings and glazed components to attempt to reduce energy consumption (low emissivity glazing...).

The current glazed components (windows, openings...) available on the market do not fit the performances wanted in the sectors like lighting, anti-glare protection, and thermal flux management. Devising an adaptive component capable of manually or automatically working and of being produced with an acceptable cost to meet the market is the challenge we have accepted. Its development goes in the direction of the recommendations from the Kyoto protocol requiring a reduction of green house gas emissions.

The switchable lamella component developed by Polymage is a key point of the device. It allows increasing the energy performances of fenestration systems and a more efficient use of solar gains from the glazed building parts or other openings. With that new type of component, Polymage expects to open onto new markets like "the Venetian" market and more generally that of solar control in buildings and the like.
