Piezoactuators for micro-robotics

EPFL proposes a methodology to design micro-actuators. A family of piezo-actuators, especially well adapted for mobile micro-robotics, has been developed. These actuators feature very high resolution (in the nanometre range) with long motion range (several millimetres or even more). Velocity up to several mm/s is possible. These micro-actuators can combine several degrees-of-freedom. They are composed of very few mechanical parts and can be produced at very low cost and are easily custom-tailored. The proposed technology is compatible with mass production.

These actuators are being used in various micromanipulators and have been presented in several conferences and fairs. EPFL can provide consulting support to companies willing to integrate these actuators to their manipulation systems.
