Embrittlement model for steels

Embrittlement models (chemistry factors) have bee derived from the FRAME data. The models seem to describe the FRAME data better than other generally known and applied trend curves based on surveillance Charpy-V data. Chemistry variation (copper and phosphorus contents) of FRAME materials varies widely, which in principle would make it more difficult to bound the current data than data of limited parameter variation.

FRAME is a single parameter experiment (measured chemistry of the materials, specimen irradiation in single capsule in one campaign and good irradiation temperature control), where variation of external parameters has been minimised. FRAME database is small and fully insufficient to definite a regulatory guide. FRAME embrittlement models, however, suggest that better embrittlement models can be derived.
