International Conference in Plant Mitochondrial Biology STRASBOURG-2005

Final Activity Report Summary - LCF-STRASBOURG-2005 (International Conference in Plant Mitochondrial Biology STRASBOURG-2005)

Since 1995, the International Congress on Plant Mitochondrial Biology (ICPMB) is the worldwide platform to communicate progress and to exchange information on plant mitochondrial research. In 2005, the ICPMB was organised in OBERNAI (France) from May 28th to June 2nd. All participants were gathered at the same location as for accommodation, catering and scientific sessions. This introduce a very useful community-forming atmosphere during the whole meeting which, in turn, allows a great number of personal contacts to be established.

The conference was organised mainly in 10 sessions of 2 hours each, comprising four seminars of equal duration. These sessions included the following:
Mitochondrial structure, dynamics and morphogenesis, Genomics, Gene expression, Transport, Metabolism, Redox and ROS, Proteomics, Organelle Cross-talk, Respiration and electron transport, Evolution.

The total attendance of this Congress was 188 scientists (from all over the world) plus a few non-scientists.

The total number of speakers was 44 for normal seminars plus two Keynote speakers and a special speaker for a final report by an evaluator (Howy Jacobs, animal mitochondria). There were also 69 young fellows which were eligible for the Marie Curie LCF support. There were 48 PhD students and 21 Posts-Docs, 74% of them were nationals of the European Countries.
