Final Activity Report Summary - TRANS-NET (Identification of genomic and biological markers as predictive/diagnostic/therapeutic tools for use in allogeneic stem cell transplantation ...)

The Marie Curie (MC) research training network, TRANS-NET has enabled the training of a European wide consortium of early stage and experienced researchers in a wide range of techniques and disciplines of value to clinical research as a hole but also to academia and industry. The MC fellows were trained via various workshops and within laboratories in molecular biology cellular immunology, statistics and immunobiology.

The work of the project has culminated in a number of PhD theses papers and scientific communications and has developed new tools (biomarkers - genetic and biological) for assessment of outcome of haemopoietic stem cell transplantation. Via animal model experiments and clinical assessments of patients suffering from complication of the transplant new markers for early identification of either relapse of the disease post-transplant and / or early diagnosis of complaints such as graft versus host disease (where the donor cells within the transplant graft attacks the patient) have been developed.
