Innovative harvesting system

The new improved patented system designed for harvesting machines by a Finnish SME could mean a more cost efficient and successful harvesting of root crop.

Plate shear units in harvesting machines are made to have a walking function with a constant stroke length. Until now, no adjustments could be made during the lifting stage, while still the process was ongoing. Furthermore, the units required a lot of upkeep in order to continue functioning smoothly and this has cost time and money.

However, a newly patented plate shear unit ensures that both the working depth and the lifting angle can be adjusted during lifting with the use of one or two hydraulic cylinders. These novel properties result in better soil penetration and can thus improve the harvesting of root crops such as sugar beets. A control box mounted on the tractor's cabin allows the user to select the type of walking function and can adjust it by altering the oil flow to the cylinders.

Thus, the new system for harvesting machines is adjustable, economical, reliable and easy to manufacture. A successful prototype has been built and tested in actual harvesting. The company seeks licensing agreements with harvesting machine manufacturers.
